XI - Crosseyed - Seeing Strate

XI Crosseyed demo. I know nothing about this band or tape. Something i picked up along the way and i have no clue. Definitely has psychedelic tenancies with a 13th floor elevators vibe mixed with other various psych music. I have no idea if they ever heard of the Jersey band The Secret Syde but sorta has a bit of that in there in parts as well. I have no idea of the year either.... Anyone have any info?

Boneless - 1991 Demo

Sorta punk rock & roll from South Jersey. Boneless put this tape out in 1991. The Seattle "grunge" element is totally present. Don't let that put you off. This is a pretty cool little mix of punk, grunge, metal, art rock & plain old rock and roll. They sounded great live after 12 beers and a few shots.

Big Nurse - 1989 Demo

One of my fave (mostly) unknown New Jersey bands, Big Nurse w/ their 1989 self titled demo. These guys should have rode the Seattle "grunge" wave to superstardom but.... you know, the best laid plans and all that. "Hey Hey" & "Tied Up" from this demo tape only release were released on Heat Blast Records (HB 002) and "Love You Tomorrow" was released on the 7 inch compilation "Holier Than Seattle" also on heat Blast Records HB003.

I've already written a small little piece on the band over at my other blog "The Devils Music" take a peek if you feel the need...

The Burnt Toast Band - S/T Tape

Ok, enough with the reader submissions for now. I just found this tape in a thrift store here in NJ. I almost didn't buy because the cover looked sorta hokey and it was a whole .99 cents! and i didn't want to waste a buck on it.... hey, i'm unemployed and every buck counts! But, i opened it up and the 1st song title was "Stoned".... So i figured oh hell, i will pay a buck to hear it. I'm glad i did. It is actually a pretty awesome lo-fi & overdriven heavy 70's stoner style rock tape with some really long guitar jams with plenty of that slightly inept playing that teeters on the brink of destruction @ every note! = awesome! Its mega distorted and pretty low fi which reminds me of some George Brigman and new band Vee Dee in spots, with a slightly more pop element times. And i do mean slight. maybe it has a bit of a Seattle Grunge thing going on too.... ?There is something else it reminds me of but i just can't place it in my brain right now. (maybe Mad River or Pavlov's Dog) If i was told this was 1974 instead of 1994 it would not be hard to believe it. It sounds that authentic. I really dig it besides the lame tape cover. I searched & searched for info on this band from Scranton PA and found NOTHING. If you have any info please let me know. All i have is the info on the tape.

Fran Dodgson - Bass
Paul Iacavazzi - Drums
Matthew Balmer - Guitar
Pete Iacavazzi - Guitar / Vocals

Produced by John Meyers at Plymouth Rocks Recording Studio. (I'm half tempted to call the number listed!)

For now enjoy!

Kung-Pao - Demo

Not sure what ever happened to these guys but they were a lot of fun. Often lumped in the "Stoner Rock" category i hear more Fudge Tunnel and Killdozer than Fu Manchu or Monster Magnet and more noise and aggression than laid back weed vibes.

Early 80's Hard Rock & Metal!!! Mix Tape

OK, not a demo today but a home made tape mix. I've been pulling out some of my old tape mixes and giving them a spin. I posted this tape cover over at a message board i frequent and someone suggested posting it up, so why not?

I have hundreds of mix tapes i have made over the years. I resisted Cd's and iTunes for so long that all i did with my vinyl was put it to tape and listen to them on a boom box in the car or at work. So maybe i will post more of these if anyone gives a rats ass or maybe i just will for my own pleasure. It was a blast revisting this one.

So here in all of its original vinyl to tape to digital glory is an early 80's hard rock & metal mix i made a few years ago. Recorded as it happened, drunk on beer. All the snap, crackle and pop and a few skips of lovingly used vinyl included...

Slaprocket - Demo 1996

I've had a bunch of people ask for this demo. I searched and found the first 4 song demo. There are other songs recorded that i just can't find right now but here are the first 4.

I love and hate this band. I love because its some really great music and hate it because we self destructed before it even got off the ground. I could point fingers but what good is that at this point. Lets just say there was a lot of drinkin & druggin going on at this point and i guess we were all somewhat responsible...

After Godspeed folded and i went West i came back to Jersey to jam w/ some of the best guys around.... Chris Kosnik formerly of Godspeed and then of Atomic Bitchwax. Kieth Ackerman of Bitchwax and Shane M Green of Nudeswirl. everyone had great ideas and we wrote some killer tunes. We played some great shows and then as quick as it started it fell apart. I started Solace right at the tail end. I think Shane played with Daisycutter for a breif while and Chris and Keith focused on Bitchwax....

we coulda been a contender.... File under: the best laid plans of mice and men, coulda, woulda, shoulda, but didn't & oh, well...
